We would like to start this blog post with a quick Thankyou to those people that have contributed to the blog and suggested topics they would like to see. As the title suggests we have been very busy on the firewood side this week processing into the barns in preparation for next season which I believe is going to be a common theme across the coming months.
One of the topics we where asked to cover and in fact regularly asked by customers is how do we buy our wood and how do we store it before it is processed. If we go right back to the start we first have to purchase the wood. We predominately purchase our wood once it has been cut down to length and brought out the woods and put into stacks. Once we have viewed the wood and agreed we are happy with the diameters and quality etc we then pay a price per m3 therefore we also sell it onto the customer at m3 instead of by weight. Generally most of our wood is bought one year in advance and is left in these stacks where they sit until they are needed. We then have a timber haulage company collect this wood for us on a artic lorry which carries approx 28-30m3 this is then bought into our yard where we usually carry 2-3 loads at any one time however this is times where we have a lot more in the yard.
As you can see from the photo below this week we have changed the direction of our stacks from running away from the barn to now running horizontal to the barn not only making it easier for the lorry to unload but also help us with grading and then loading the timber ourselves. We installed four poles in order to stop the logs rolling into the main driveway and more importantly rolling down into anything or anyone.
Unfortunately only a short blog post today due to a week of pretty much the same task day in day out which is just how it is when we are trying to stock up for next season. we hope this helps you understand further how the product we sell comes from a tree in the local woodland to firewood in your fire ! Once again Thankyou for reading and we hope you have a great rest of the week from all the team at Japonica.
